PROJECT MUSIC announces the first event in its “Overture to Italy” Concert Series, featuring internationally acclaimed cellist and composer Sujari Britt. The performance marks the beginning of a year‐long effort to expand global learning opportunities for PROJECT MUSIC student musicians in partnership with Sujari Britt and Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo in Trani, Italy, of which she is co-founder. Sujari will be joined by local artist and concert pianist, Maxim Pakhomov.
The concert will be held Sunday, May 31, at 4pm at the Greenwich Historical Society Barn in Greenwich at 47 Strickland Road, Cos Cob. General Admission tickets are $75 and VIP tickets, which include an artist Meet-and-Greet at 3:30pm and reserved concert seating, are $100. All tickets include a selection of light bites and refreshments, and can be purchased at projectmusic.org/overturetoitaly.
A dedicated advocate for music education and global artistic exchange, Britt serves as Artistic Director of Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo and participates in From the Top’s Arts Leadership Program. She performs on a Neuner &amp; Hornsteiner cello (Mittenwald, Germany, c.1718), generously loaned by the Carlsen Cello Foundation.
Cellist and composer Sujari Britt is an internationally recognized artist whose performances have captivated audiences across Asia, Europe, the UK, and the United States. A New York native, she began cello at age four and went on to earn degrees from the Royal Academy of Music (London), the Sibelius Academy (Finland), and the Manhattan School of Music.
Britt has appeared as soloist with orchestras nationwide, performed at Carnegie Hall, and played for President Obama at the White House. Her collaborations include work with Alisa Weilerstein, Sting, and the Kronos Quartet, and she has been featured at major international events such as the Beijing Super Cello Festival, Musiikkitalo’s Cellofest Opening Gala in Helsinki, and United Nations programs for World Humanitarian Day and HeForShe.
PROJECT MUSIC has been invited to partner with Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo in Trani, Puglia Italy in 2027. Students enrolled in the immersive musical instruction program offered through PROJECT MUSIC will be invited to apply for the opportunity to travel to Italy in Summer 2027 as part of the H. K. Miserocchi Summer Music Institute, a division of PROJECT MUSIC, to study, learn and grow their musical talents under the tutelage of Sujari Britt and the Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo.&nbsp;
