Rotary Club of Stamford Marks 26 Years of Distributing Dictionaries
Every third grader in Stamford is in the process of receiving dictionaries courtesy of Stamford Rotary Club.
March 17, 2026 – Third Graders across Stamford are in the process of receiving dictionaries courtesy of Stamford Rotary Club. Members of the Stamford Rotary Club gathered at the Stamford Hotel recently to prep 1,200 dictionaries for distribution to all third grade students in Stamford public schools. This marks the 26th year the Club has undertaken this project, distributing a total of over 33,000 dictionaries.
Every year, for the past 26 years members of the Rotary Club of Stamford have sorted and distributed 1,200 to 1,300 dictionaries (over 33,000 total) to every third grade student in all 13 Stamford public elementary schools.
“Our Club participates in numerous community service activities as part of our belief in ‘Service Above Self’ including a yearly coat distribution working with Childcare Learning Centers and serving meals at Pacific House," said Shivonne Mathison, Club President. “This project speaks directly to our commitment to education and literacy.”

Club members placed bookplates in all the dictionaries which are in the process of being delivered to schools. Dictionaries are chosen to be a key resource for students in the coming years and include the Constitution of the U.S., the Declaration of Independence, brief biographies of all of the U.S. presidents, world maps, and information about all 50 states, countries of the world and planets in our solar system.
