SilverSource In Stamford Receives $15,000 Grant
The grant, which came from Fairfield County's Community Foundation, will support an assistance program for older women in poverty.

STAMFORD, CT — SilverSource, the nonprofit agency that provides services and resources for older adults in need in the Stamford area, has received a $15,000 grant from the Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Fund for Women & Girls.
The funding will support the organization’s individual assistance program for older women in poverty.
Of the over seven million older adults living in poverty, two in three are women, with single and minority women struggling the most, according to a news release about the grant. This is consistent with Stamford’s profile, where 70 percent of SilverSource clients are women.

"Older women are twice as likely as men to retire into poverty as historically, women are more likely to be unpaid caregivers and be paid lower salaries than men," said SilverSource CEO Kathleen Bordelon in a news release.
"This grant will help women experiencing economic hardship after a lifetime of disproportionate caregiving burdens, workplace inequality, and opportunity, wage and wealth gaps," Bordelon added. "We are deeply grateful for the funding provided by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation which will help us provide vital support for older women in need in our community."
