Simmons Issues Statement Following Gov. Lamont's State Address

STAMFORD, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont gave his State of the State address on Wednesday, and pitched tax cuts, gun law changes and infrastructure investments.

Afterwards, Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons issued a statement and responded to various aspects of Lamont's speech, including his proposed midterm budget adjustments and legislative agenda.

These areas include but are not limited to investment in the city’s infrastructure, tax relief for Stamford families, and funding that is critical in combatting COVID-19 and protecting residents, a news release from Simmons' office said.

"Budgets are a clear indication of priorities, and the Governor’s recommended budget adjustments focus on key areas that will aid in the growth, health, and safety of the City of Stamford and other communities throughout Connecticut," Simmons said in her statement. "I applaud Governor Lamont for proposing critical state funding that focuses on boosting local economic development, common sense proposals to combat gun violence, investment in public health and safety, and provide tax relief for families."

Simmons said that she plans to be an active participant in the state legislative process, in partnership with the Stamford legislative delegation.

"I’m looking forward to working alongside my former colleagues in the General Assembly to make progress on behalf of Stamford’s residents," Simmons said. "I know what is at stake for our city during these legislative discussions, and my administration is committed to working with our bipartisan delegation to make sure Stamford’s voice is heard at the State Capitol."
