Stamford Board Of Reps. Approves Budget For 2026-2027

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Board of Representatives on Thursday night approved budgets for both the city and the Board of Education during a swift meeting that lasted just under 25 minutes.

"This FY2026-2027 city budget reflects our continued commitment to making strategic investments in the services, infrastructure, and initiatives that Stamford residents rely on every day, while also being fiscally responsible during a time of economic uncertainty," Mayor Caroline Simmons said in a statement to Patch. "I want to thank the Board of Finance and Board of Representatives for their collaboration and work throughout this budget season."

The representatives approved the Board of Education budget of $359,975,133 without any cuts. Rep. Bobby Pavia (D-17) abstained.

On the operating side, BOR Fiscal Committee Co-Chair Eric Morson (D-13) motioned to cut $673,360 from the Office of Benefits and Insurance, and $50,000 from contracted services in the Parks & Recreation Department.

After the cuts were approved, the final city operating budget of $726,377,552 was unanimously adopted.

Additionally, the representatives also approved a $60.6 million capital budget, which includes funding for various construction projects around the city.

"I want to thank the fiscal committee members for all your hard work in this entire budget season," said BOR President Ramya Shaw at the beginning of Thursday's special meeting. "I know it's a lot of meetings, so I really thank you all for doing that work."

Shaw specifically thanked Morson and fellow Fiscal Committee Co-Chair Andrew Zachary (D-14) for their work.

The Stamford Board of Finance is scheduled to hold a special meeting on May 18 to set the mill rate.
