STAMFORD, CT — A special election has been scheduled for Feb. 28 in Stamford to fill the vacancy left by Daniel Fox, a Democrat, who resigned earlier this month from the 148th House District.

Robin Druckman, chair of the Stamford Democratic City Committee, and Joshua Esses, chair of the Stamford Republican Town Committee, told Patch that both parties will convene on Sunday to endorse candidates.

Fox, who was reelected to another term last November, resigned before the legislative session began on Jan. 4.

After he was first elected to the 148th House District in February 2011, Fox, who is an attorney, was appointed to the Connecticut Law Revision Commission, which conducts an ongoing review of Connecticut Law and recommends appropriate revisions to antiquated, unconstitutional and inequitable laws.

Fox served as chairman of the Government Administration and Elections Committee. He additionally served on the Judiciary Committee.

"It has been my great honor to serve as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and I will miss it greatly," Fox said in his resignation letter.

Under state law, the governor is required to issue a writ of special election within 10 days of a seat in the General Assembly becoming vacant, and a special election must be held 46 days after the writ is issued.

Gov. Ned Lamont issued the writ last Friday.
