Stamford Downtown Cancels Upcoming Fire & Ice Winter Festival
"The safety and comfort of families, visitors, performers, artists, vendors, and staff is our top priority," organizers said.
STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Downtown announced on Wednesday it has canceled the Fire & Ice Winter Festival scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, in Columbus Park, due to extreme cold temperatures forecasted for the area.
"The safety and comfort of families, visitors, performers, artists, vendors, and staff is our top priority. With dangerously low temperatures predicted, conditions are not suitable for an outdoor community event of this scale," Stamford Downtown said in an announcement.
While the festival itself has been canceled, more than 10 ice sculptures will still be installed in Columbus Park, allowing residents, workers, and visitors to safely enjoy the artwork throughout the weekend and beyond, at least until they melt.
