Stamford Election Results 2016: Incumbents Roll to Victory

All incumbents retained their seats.

STAMFORD, CT— Stamford voters are heading to the polls on Nov. 8 for the 2016 election.'

Democrat incumbents State Rep. Terry Adams, Patricia Miller, Wiliam Tong, Livvy Floren, Dan Fox and Caroline Simmons retained their seats, according to the Stamford Advocate. State Sen. Carlo Leone also kept his seat.

27th Senate District

Democrat Sen. Carlo Leone and challengers Republican Dr. Gino Bottino and Green Party candidate Cora Santaguida will face off in the 27th district race.
has been a Stamford resident for more than 30 years and has represented the district since 2011. He was previously a state representative in Stamford dating back to 2003.
He is deputy president pro tempore of the senate and chair of the general law committee. Leone has championed economic development programs including the Small Business Express Program, the Job Expansion Tax Credit and the STEP-UP job training and employment program, according to his senate biography.
Outside of politics he is a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked at Xerox Corp for 17 years.

Bottino is a board certified internist, hematologist and oncologist specializing in cancer and infertility. He teaches at New York Medical College as an adjunct professor.
Some of the main issues facing the state are a poor economy, jobs and budget issues, he said, according to the Stamford Advocate. He added that the district doesn’t get a fair share of the money it sends to Hartford.
Santaguida is co-chair of the Green Party of Connecticut Fairfield County Chapter and is working toward a master’s degree in public health. She is also a justice of the peace and the volunteer coordinator for the Green Party Jill Stein campaign in Connecticut.
She said she supports a local economy, is against high stakes testing and wants to reexamine the use of police in schools, according to her campaign website.

144th House District
Democrat Rep. Caroline Simmons will defend her seat against Republican challenger Steve Kolenberg.
Simmons worked for the Women’s Business Development Council in Stamford and is co-chair of Connecticut Young Democrats Women’s Caucus, member of the Stamford League of Women Voters and the Southwest Connecticut Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
Kolenberg was born and raised in Stamford and became the youngest person elected to public office in Stamford at the age of 20 to the Stamford Board of Representatives.
He worked in the political section of the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, primarily on issues of conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

145th House District
Democrat Rep. Patricia Billie Miller will defend her seat against Republican challenger Francky Trofort.
Miller was first elected to the seat in 2008 and became deputy speaker of the house in 2013.
She has been an advocate for campaign finance reform and tougher domestic violence laws, according to her biography. She also helped pass sweeping education reform in 2011 that included linking teacher and administrator evaluations with student academic growth.
Trofort is a Republican Town Committee member, justice of the peace and physical trainer, according to the Stamford Advocate. He was born in Haiti and moved to Stamford as a teen. He came close to winning public office on the Board of Representatives last year where he lost by 48 votes.
Education and business growth issues would be at the top of his priorities if elected, he said.

146th House District
Democrat incumbent Rep. Terry Adams will defend his seat against Republican Arkadiusz Jakubowski.
Adams has lived in Stamford for 39 years and served on the Stamford Board of Representatives for 10 years, according to his biography. He is committed to issues including keeping the streets safe, constituent service and social issues including affordable housing, homeownership and historic preservation.
Jakubowski moved to Stamford about three years ago from West Haven, according to the Stamford Advocate. He said he wants to make sure the state becomes an ideal environment to raise a young family instead of young adults looking to other states for opportunity. He works for an international gas and oil company.

147th House District
State Rep. William Tong is running unopposed in the 147th district and is now in his fifth term.

148th House District
Democrat Rep. Daniel Fox will defend his seat against challengers Republican Philip Balestriere and Green Party candidate Brian Merlen.
Fox was elected to the seat in 2011. He is a member of the Stamford Juvenile Review Board, Fairfield County Bar Association and Fairfield County Bar Foundation. He belongs to other legal associations as well.
Balestriere is a small business owner and serves as Stamford Constable, according to his campaign website. He is a member of the Glenbrook Neighborhood Association and other organizations.

149th House District

Rep. Livvy Floren is in her eighth-term and is running unopposed.
