The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
Lack of deep affordable housing for Stamford's essential workers and the absence of Land Use and Zoning agency and board practice of equity and equality for some of its taxpayers. This is resulting in the overdevelopment and crowding Stamford's Westside and South End neighborhoods.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
The Democrats of the Westside District 5 chose Melinda Punkin Baxter and I to represent them on the Nov. 2 ballot because we have been working on making the overcrowding of the neighborhood an issue and engaging those who govern on the city's deficits.
I believe what is a critical difference is I am inclusive in engaging a coalition of residents in this district as well as businesses. I have been actively involved in civic duty to make the Westside visible and heard. I feel that the other candidate has a narrower scope on the Westside quality of life issues and the antiquated practices of this city's housing, health & social service and non-profit agencies.
The arrival and presence of COVID-19 requires a revamping in how we serve those in need of supports and those needing resident services that taxpayers should expect parks maintenance, street repairs, care for the homeless, and etc.
Accomplishments:
I served on the Westside Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Executive Board for the years. Partnered with the Stamford Police Department on the WNRZ's Security Committee. Created and implemented summer concerts for the Take Back Carwin Park Initiative. Organized and hosted public hearing to discuss citizens concerns for a controversial nominee for police chief. Attend and participate in many meetings for city departments issues effecting the Westside and Stamford as a whole.
Other issues:
Seek better care for Stamford's parks especially those in the Westside, Carwin, and Hatch Field and Lionel Repair/Build better infrastructure to benefit us now and the future. Start with West Main Street Bridge and Stamford public schools mold/quality air crisis. Assist residents in better navigation through city government services and resources via workshops and town meetings. Partner with the private sector and non-profits to created internships and summer employment opportunities for youth.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I am passionate about helping all people find their voices and to speak their stories, especially children. It should certainly occur at the town meeting. Stamford's Board of Representatives is just that- YOUR town meeting. Melinda Punkin Baxter and Bonnie Kim Campbell are the change you need and the voices the Westside deserves!
