Stamford Election: Denis W. Patterson For Board Of Reps.

STAMFORD, CT — Election Day on Nov. 2 is fast approaching, and there are a number of key races on the ballot in Stamford.

Patch reached out to candidates for local office to get more information on their campaigns and the issues that are facing the city.

Democrat Denis W. Patterson, 64, is running for the Board of Representatives, District 6, in Stamford.

Occupation: Retired. Part-time graduate student

Family:Unmarried. My parents live by Turn of the River and I live Downtown

Experience: Seeking 3rd term on the Board of Representatives. Former Chairman Economic Development Commission. Former Member Urban Renewal Commission and Justice of the Peace.

Family in government: No

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

(property tax rate, which affects owners and renters)

I am very aware of how family budgets are impacted by property tax rates, especially when residents are on a fixed income. As an elected representative and taxpayer, I make every effort to assure that are tax dollars are used properly and as efficiently as possible

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

I am committed to being a voice for the residents of District 6 and the businesses that serve our community

Accomplishments:

My education, work, life, and community service experience have prepared me to be effective in this position. I know the City well and my language and cross cultural communications skills help me connect with my constituents

Other issues:

• Public safety, including road maintenance, signals and markings.
• We need to institute and budget for responsible inspection and maintenance schedules for our infrastructure, facilities and schools.
• We need to focus on protecting the environment and preparing for dealing with the impact (flooding) of stronger and more frequent storms
• We need affordable, fast and effective internet, and communications and broadcast connectivity. The current service levels are not working for Downtown.
• Our schools have to prepare our students for jobs and life in the 21st Century!
• Responsible development

Everyone comes to Downtown. But people also live here! We are a diverse and multicultural community. We need to work together!
