The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
The rising costs of living, deteriorating infrastructure, and quality of our public schools are among the top issues facing our City. However, I believe that the biggest problem in Stamford is that too few individuals wield far too much influence over various roles of our political structure and government. This “small town mentality” has no place in a City of our stature, and holds Stamford back from reaching its true potential.
The only way to combat “politics as usual” in Stamford is to promote qualified candidates in all aspects of our local government in order to bring fresh ideas to our City. To achieve this goal, I intend to lead by example and continue to stand up to those who advance special interests at our expense.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
My experience. If re-elected to the Board of Representatives, I will bring five years of legislative history back to City Hall. This experience will allow me, along with my running-mate Ramya Shaw, to better represent the interests of our community than the candidates running against us.
Accomplishments:
In addition to chairing the Board’s Operations Committee, which oversees citywide services, I have served on the Legislative & Rules & Steering Committees, among others. I have also led various efforts which have had a profound impact on our City, including Stamford’s plastic bag legislation. My professional experience as an attorney, along with my academic background, and make me uniquely qualified for this position.
Other issues:
Public safety is my top priority. I am proud to have been recognized by People Friendly Stamford as a “Safe Streets Champion” for my efforts to make Stamford’s streets safer for our pedestrians and cyclists.
I am also a staunch environmentalist and animal rights advocate. I am most proud of the laws I wrote relating to plastic bags, plastic straws, styrofoam containers, and Connecticut’s first law restricting the unattended tethering of dogs.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I was raised in Stamford, so the values of our community were instilled in me at a young age. I view public service as my civic duty, and my experience representing District 12 for the past five years has been as challenging as it has been rewarding. I believe that my contributions have made Stamford a better place to live, and I believe that I have much more to offer.
