Stamford Firefighter Added to Fallen Firefighter Memorial

Firefighter Richard Saunders passed away in 2015.

STAMFORD, CT—Stamford Firefighter Richard Saunders was added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Saunders succumbed to cancer in 2015.

His name will join seven other Stamford Fire Fighters whose names are already engraved at the memorial. They include: Captain Daniel Chichester’s who died in 2010, Fire Fighter William Thomas Miller Jr. (2001), Fire Fighter Henry Wosniak, (1973), Captain George Daily (1956), Captain James R. Murray (1945), Fire Fighter Thomas J. Meehan (1932) and Fire Fighter Oscar H. Spahr (1920).

“It is a sad reality that there are 7,400 names on the National Firefighter Memorial Wall and eight (8) of those are firefighters who died in the service of our city,” said Stamford Professional Fire Fighter Association President Brendan Keatley. “It is critical that we always remember the sacrifice made by firefighters such as Richard Saunders.”
