Stamford Hawk Killer Sentenced
The man killed hawks after he became worried they would kill pigeons used for racing.

STAMFORD, CT — A city man was sentenced to one year of probation after he killed red-tailed and Cooper's hawks. Both birds are protected under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
Adam Boguski, 44, of Stamford pleaded guilty to conspiracy to take, capture and kill the hawks, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.
Co-conspirator Thomas Kapusta, 63, of Westbury, N.Y. was sentenced to a year of probation previously and will also have to pay a $5,500 fine and perform 90 hours of community service at a local animal shelter.

Kapusta was a racing pigeon enthusiast and constructed a pigeon coop at 330 Weed Avenue in Stamford. Kapusta and Boguski viewed the hawks as a threat to their pigeons and specifically captured and killed them, according to the office.
The two won't be allowed to engage in pigeon racing as part of their sentence.
