Stamford Health Donates to Hopey's Heart Foundation
Stamford Health donates funds for AEDs to the Hopey's Heart Foundation, started by WNBA NY Liberty player Tina Charles

WNBA NY Liberty player, Tina Charles, believes we should see Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) the way we see fire extinguishers – as readily accessible life-saving equipment. Charles brought that message to Stamford Health where Dr. Edward Schuster presented her with a donation of $10,000 from Stamford Health to Hopey’s Heart, a charitable foundation established by Tina in memory of her beloved aunt, Maureen “Hopey” Vaz. Dr. Schuster connected with Tina after reading about the foundation and was moved by its mission to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest through placement of AEDs. The foundation serves as an AED Grant Program, allowing all non-profit institutions to apply for a free AED. Since starting in April 2013, the foundation has placed 380 AEDS, including saving a life in 2017. To learn more about Hopey’s Heart and ways to donate, please visit www.hopeysheart.org.
