Stamford Health Hosts International Showcase On Best Practices
The event was part of the annual Planetree conference.

From Stamford Health: On Sunday, October 7, Stamford Health welcomed more than 70 visitors from around the world for a behind-the-scenes tour of Stamford Hospital. The event offered a unique opportunity for Stamford Health to showcase how the organization brings the Planetree philosophy to life the in both the patient and employee experience.
Guests included hospital CEOs, board members, nursing directors, technicians, physicians and other medical staff from healthcare organizations in the U.S., Canada, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Lebanon, Denmark, and Brazil. They made the trip to Stamford from Boston, where they were attending attend the 40th anniversary Planetree Conference on Person-Centered Care. Visitors were eager to learn more about how Planetree is integrated into the new hospital as well as to get new ideas to bring back to their own organizations.
“We have nine hospitals in our system and are always adding more, so I am most interested in seeing how you’ve implemented different Planetree concepts in the design of your new hospital,” said Dr. Zuber M. Shaikh, Director, Corporate Quality Improvement, Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group in Saudi Arabia.

“We are just going to start our journey with Planetree, so we want to figure out how it works, what are the results and what is involved on the journey. That is why we’re going to the conference and why we’re her today,” said Guillermo Reyes, Chief Operating Officer, Centro Medico ABC, Mexico City, Mexico.
Hospital leadership including Kathleen Silard, RN, BSN, MS, FACHE, President & Chief Executive Office; Ellen Komar, RN, MPA, BSN, NEA-BC, Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer; and Deborah Fedeli, Director of Patient Centered Services, joined dozens of staff to host the event. The afternoon featured tours through Stamford Health’s state-of-the-art facilities: the Bennett Cancer Center, Surgical Center, Emergency Department, Medical Office Building, Hospital for Special Surgery, Heart & Vascular Institute, Intensive Care Unit, Nursing Unit and Maternal/Child Health. Additional volunteers were on hand to demonstrate and discuss Stamford Health best practices.

Stamford Health joined Planetree in 2004 and today is recognized as a high-performing Planetree Gold-Certified Person-Centered Hospital of Distinction, only one of seven in the world to attain that distinction. Planetree, Inc. is a non-profit organization that certifies hospitals as patient-centered. The organization’s designation is the highest level of achievement in patient-centered care, based on evidence and standards.
