Stamford Babe Ruth Firefighters Assist Teen Pitcher for 11-0 win

On Sunday afternoon, May 22 at Stamford High School, Thomas Butler threw seven strikeouts for the Stamford Firefighters on the way to a perfect game versus Greenwich in a Babe Ruth League game (14/15U Division). The Stamford Firefighters team is coached by David Wilburn and Ray Murray.

While Butler, who is finishing his sophomore year at Trinity Catholic High School looked stellar, he was assisted by his team's error-free defense, excellent catching by Billy Schaner and an offense that loves to hit and steal bases.

Jason Tifford tripled (2-2 + walk), doubles from Jimmy Murray (1-2), Joe Belmonte(1-2) and Thomas Butler (2-3) and singles from Ben Servidio (1-3) Ethan Wilburn (1-2 + walk), Peter Murray (1-2) and Wesley Gonzalez (1-1 + walk).

The team also combined for 13 stolen bases, bringing the total to 29 in the last two games.

On Saturday, May 21 the same Stamford Firefighters defeated Darien Blue by a score of 13-4. In that game, Jimmy Murray pitched three innings, with 4k's, 3 walks and 3 earned runs. Joey Blemonte pitched 2 innings, fanning the first three with a total of 4k's, 1 walk and 1 earned run. Billy Shaner came in to close and pitched a sterling 6th, fanning all three batters to end the game.

Versus Darien Jimmy Murray and Jason Tifford both hit triples, Billy Schaner doubled and singles from Thomas Butler, Joey Blemonte Nick Sclafani and Wesley Gonzalez. The team stole 16 bases with Butler stealing five on the day and Jason Tifford and Ethan Wilburn stealing home on passed balls twice.
