Stamford Man Arrested With Dangerous Weapon In New Canaan: Police

You may think that's a real gun, but it's a BB gun, according to New Canaan police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 20-year-old Stamford man was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle early Tuesday after he was pulled over by New Canaan police and found to be in possession of a BB gun that looked remarkably like a real handgun, according to authorities.

Arrested at about 1:45 a.m. was Jeffrey Beltran, of Rugby Street. He was pulled over after he left the Merritt Parkway at exit 36 and failed to make a complete stop at the intersection of Old Stamford Road.

While speaking with Beltran, the officer saw what looked like a handgun in the back seat partially covered by a towel.

"Beltran advised the officer that this weapon was a BB gun; the BB gun was similar to a .357 revolver with chrome and a black handle," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. The weapon was loaded with BB's and police found additional ammo in the vehicle.

Beltran was held in lieu of $5,000 bail, and he was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on May 1.
