Stamford Man Busted With Illegal Handgun, Marijuana, Cops Say

The incident occurred Sunday night on Stamford's east side.

STAMFORD, CT — A 23-year-old Stamford man was arrested on weapons and narcotics charges Sunday night after the vehicle he was riding in was pulled over for having overly tinted windows, according to Stamford police.

Malcolm Germeil-Clerveau, of Sheridan Street, was carrying a .45 caliber handgun without a permit when the vehicle was pulled over just after 9 p.m. He was charged with carrying a gun without a permit; weapons in a motor vehicle; possession of marijuana; and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, police officials wrote on the department's Facebook page.

In addition to the High-Point handgun "with a round in the chamber," police also found six rounds of ammunition in his possession and approximately 30 grams of marijuana.

The incident began when Stamford Police Officer Kara Hames, who was patrolling the east side, spotted an illegally parked car on Shippan Avenue with illegally tinted windows.

"As Officer Hames approached the vehicle, it sped off," officials wrote. "Officer Hames caught up to the vehicle and stopped it on Williams Street. As she approached the car, she immediately was able to smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The operator admitted to having smoked some marijuana."

The handgun and marijuana was found during a search of the vehicle, and Germeil-Clerveau was held in lieu of bail of $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 5.

"We are extremely proud of the actions of Officer Hames," officials wrote. "By paying attention to such matters as parking violations and equipment violations she was able to take a gun of the streets of Stamford. The Stamford Police Department is dedicated to keep Stamford a safe city and there is no place for illegal guns on our streets."
