Stamford Mayor Declares "Public Health Week", Honors Dr. Bert Ballin
Mayor Martin proclaimed April 4-10 to be "Public Health Week."

STAMFORD, CT – Mayor David Martin was today joined by Health Commission members, Public Safety Director Ted Jankowski, former Health Director Dr. Andrew D. McBride, and current staff of the City’s Health Department to honor Health Commission member Dr. Bert Ballin and proclaim April 4-10 as “Public Health Week.”
“The City of Stamford is proud to honor Dr. Bert Ballin, celebrating his continuous leadership on the City’s Health Commission since 1962 and to our community as an orthodontist,” said Mayor Martin. “This National Public Health Week, and every day, I am committed to a safe, healthy City that provides broad access to quality health care for its residents.”

Dr. Ballin was honored at the ceremony for his more than 50 years of service on the Stamford Health Commission. He has been President, Chairman and member of a number of dental societies, school programs, the Long Ridge Association and non-profits such as the United Way. Over the decades, Dr. Ballin has participated in significant programs including promoting the dangers of smoking, AIDS initiatives, and school-based health clinics.
“The Health Commission is a very active commission that serves our community well. Their recommendations assist in helping the Health Department provide the highest quality of service to the Stamford community. Dr. Ballin was instrumental in as one of the original founders of the City of Stamford Health Commission and after more than 50 years of service, it is obvious that he is a dedicated professional, a man of honor and integrity that has had a stellar career,” said Ted Jankowski, Director of Public Safety Health and Welfare.

For National Public Health Week, residents are encouraged to join in activities and take action to improve the health of themselves and their communities.
