Stamford North Wins Thriller, Captures Division I Crown

Stamford North outlasted perennial power Fairfield American to advance in Little League state tournament.

The Stamford North Little League team is moving on in the state tournament after edging perennial power Fairfield American 5-4 in extra innings Sunday night to claim the Division I title.

Jay Lockwood drove in the game-winner and a tag out at home plate provided the dramatic final out in the bottom of the seventh inning to seal the victory for Stamford North.

“I am just overjoyed,” catcher Ben Nash told Mary Albl of GameTimeCT.com after the game. “We knew Fairfield was an awesome competitor. We wanted to win.”

With the win, Stamford North advances to the double-elimination Sectional tournament and will play again Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
