Stamford Panel on Immigration
Highlights realities at the border and in Fairfield County

NOVEMBER 2019 – Building One Community – The Center for Immigrant Opportunity hosted an engaging panel discussion, Immigration Today: At the Border & In Our Own Backyard in late October at the Stamford Yacht Club.
Getty Images correspondent John Moore, immigration counselor Maria Palacios, and Stamford immigration attorney, Alex Troyb drew upon their broad experiences to paint a vivid picture of the harsh realities faced by many immigrants who seek to make their new homes in the United States, as well as the complications of our country's legal immigration system. The 150 guests left the beautiful Stamford Yacht Club with a deeper understanding of the challenges immigrants face when choosing to leave their country and what drives them to establish a better future for themselves and their families. Also discussed were ways local organizations provide aide and support immigrants today and how members of the community can continue the conversation, raising topical matters and creating positive solutions.
There was a lively q&a, in which attendees sought information regarding DACA, the public charge rule, and how their experience at the border compares to what is in the media. All proceeds benefited Building One Community, which aims to advance the successful integration of immigrants and their families.
