Stamford PD: Jogger Sexually Assaulted Twice at Cove Island Park

Stamford Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman twice while she was out for an early morning run at the Cove Island Park track Friday.

The 30-year-old victim was jogging on the track about 5:20 a.m. Oct. 16 when a Hispanic male came from behind her and grabbed her off the track, police said.

“The (man)then purported that he had a knife and began to sexually assault her up near the track. During this prolonged attack she was then dragged to the water line and sexually assaulted again,” police said.

The man then left the area and the victim notified police a short time later.

The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male about 35 to 40 years old. He is about five-foot-seven with a stocky medium build with a protruding stomach, unshaven beard, and spoke English with a Spanish accent. He was wearing a dark-colored fleece sweatshirt, gym style shorts, black sneakers, and a dark colored baseball hat.

Police said the suspect also had an odor of alcohol on his breath.

The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

“Stamford Police Detective bureau is currently working this active investigation and the ID bureau was dispatched to process the scene,” police said.

Police are asking that if anyone saw a man fitting this description in Cove Island Park from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday or at the park within the last few days, to call the Stamford Police Detective bureau at 203-977-4417.
