STAMFORD, CT — The opening reception for the Stamford Photography Club Member’s Show, the grand finale to the SPC's 2022-23 season, will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 18 at the Palace Theater in the heart of downtown Stamford. The show runs through June 24.

The theme of the Member’s show is "Life: It’s All Around Us." The SPC’s Exhibition Committee chose this theme because springtime is the time for renewal and growth. Stamford resident Sandy Gennrich curated the show.

"The theme allowed for a broad interpretation by each photographer. We had submissions across genres, including wildlife, landscape, sports, abstract and portraiture, which was great to see," Gennrich said in a news release. "I was looking for images that moved me in some way. Sometimes it was an audible ‘wow,’ and other times it was a quiet smile that emerged as I viewed the image."

SPC Member Nicole Rivard, a resident of Darien, said she loves the intimacy with animals and nature that's created by photography.

"And if I can show who the animals are and portray the feeling I had in that moment in nature with viewers, that’s the icing on the cake," Rivard said in a news release. "Recently I had someone say to me that she found some of my horse photos so compelling that she just wanted to step into them. That is everything."

Gennrich’s interest in photographing ethnic and biodiversity has led her to explore many lands including Cambodia, India and Antarctica. Here in the U.S., she’s passionate about using her camera to capture the unfamiliar within the American landscape — disappearing beauty, changing weather and unique perspectives.

"Over the past several years, the SPC’s annual Member’s Show at the Palace has become a Stamford event. We have very accomplished photographers who create wonderful works. We look forward to having the community experience the best of what our club has to offer," added Dr. Steven Labkoff, chair of the Exhibition Committee and a Stamford resident, in a news release.

The Stamford Photography Club was founded in 1945 by a small group of photography
enthusiasts. The organization has grown to approximately 80 members and is a leading photography club in the area attracting members from Fairfield County and Westchester County in New York.

The club meets twice a month from September to June, alternating between its competitions and guest speaker series. For information on the Stamford Photography Club, visit their website.
