UPDATE: Identity of Stamford Fire Victim Is Released

Police, fire and EMS personnel responded to a call of an unresponsive victim and a house fire early Monday.

Update: 5:20 p.m.

Stamford Police have identified the 36-year-old woman who died after a fire in the home she shared with her family on Webbs Hill Road Monday morning.

Police said that Heisze Chan was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:56 a.m. Stamford Fire & Rescue, Stamford EMS and Stamford Police responded to 109 Webbs Hill Rd. for a report of an unresponsive female and a working house fire at 7:39 a.m. Police said they are investigating whether the death is a suicide. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner, police said.

Upon arrival patrol officers assisted a resident of the house in removing Chan from the second floor of the smoke-filled home. Fire and EMS quickly arrived and attempted to resuscitate the unresponsive female to no avail, police said.

“Stamford Fire/Rescue entered the home and put out a fire which was contained to a bedroom. The house sustained minor damage but had a significant smoke condition,” police said in a statement.

Stamford Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrived and took over the scene, along with the local and State Fire Marshal’s Office. “The investigators received a search warrant for the home and removed several items of interest that pointed to the indication of a suicide. The female victim was removed from the property and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Officer for an autopsy which will be performed on July 28,” police said.

In a statement, police said, “The SPD would like to offer its condolences to the Chan family during this difficult time. This investigation is still active and we will have a manner and cause of death after the autopsy (Tuesday).”

Update: 1:40 p.m.

Emergency responders were called to a home at 109 Webb’s Hill Rd. for a medical emergency about 7:30 a.m. Monday and found an unidentified 36-year-old woman dead on a bed, according to a report.

Police described the victim as an artist who apparently set charcoal on fire in the room that may have been part of an art project, according to The Advocate. Police were obtaining a search warrant so they could continue their investigation, according to the newspaper report that can be found here.

Stamford Police are investigating a fire and a death at a home on Webb’s Hill Road, according to a report.

According to News 12 Connecticut, police said there was a medical at the residence but when they arrived smoke was visible on the second floor.

Firefighters attempted to revive on a person found on the first floor, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the News 12 report that can be found here.
