Stamford Police Warn Residents Of Garbage Tip Scam

Stamford police are warning residents not to fall victim to a "garbage tip scam."

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford police are warning residents this week not to fall victim to a "garbage tip scam."

In a Facebook post Tuesday, police said envelopes have been left in residents' mailboxes requesting tips for "garbage men" be sent to a P.O. Box. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to police, these envelopes are not from city employees. Any resident who uses a private garbage company and finds a similar envelope in their mailbox is encouraged to ask the company about it before sending any money out.
