Stamford Public Schools Announces Administrative Changes

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tamu Lucero announced the appointment of an interim principal and interim assistant principal in the district.

STAMFORD, CT — Superintendent of Stamford Public Schools Dr. Tamu Lucero has appointed Joe Claps as the interim principal at Dolan Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year and Dr. Lisa Armstrong as interim assistant principal at Stark Elementary School.

"With his middle school experience and most recently serving as the assistant principal at Stark Elementary School, Joe is the perfect choice to lead Dolan this year. As Stark feeds into Dolan, Joe will be familiar with many of the Dolan students and families who are sure to be excited to see Mr. Claps," Lucero said in a news release.

"I want you to know that we take the process of finding Dolan’s next permanent principal very seriously. We will post this position in the spring of 2023 and look forward to your participation in that process."

Claps has been the assistant principal at Stark since 2014. He was a fifth grade teacher at Roxbury from 2002-2008 and a sixth grade teacher at Cloonan Middle School from 2008-2013. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Connecticut and earned his master’s in education from Sacred Heart University. He also has his certification in educational administration and supervision from the University of Bridgeport.

Armstrong will be returning to Stark School as the interim assistant principal.

"We couldn’t be happier for her to join Stark School. She will be a welcome addition to our administrative team," Associate Superintendent Michael Fernandes said in a news release.

Armstrong has been serving as the coordinator of talent acquisition and development in the human resources department since 2018. Previously, she was a curriculum associate for elementary literacy.

Armstrong worked as an elementary literacy coach at Newfield from 2009 to 2014 and as a literacy support specialist at Roxbury from 2001 to 2009. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University, earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Bridgeport and has a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Capella University.
