Stamford Public Schools COVID-19 Update

The school district announced some changes to the quarantine requirements on Tuesday afternoon, as well as dates for proms and graduations.

STAMFORD, CT—The Stamford Public School District has revised its quarantine requirements for staff and students. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Fernandes gave an update during Tuesday's weekly COVID briefing with Mayor David Martin.

Elementary School-related exposures: Instead of automatically quarantining an entire classroom, if one person tests positive, the District will utilize current contact tracing protocols for determining those who are close contacts, and only those students or staff members identified as such (if they are not fully vaccinated) will need to quarantine.

School/non-sports related quarantine: Students and staff may return after 10 days, instead of 14, without the need for a negative test and with no COVID-19 associated symptoms.

Quarantine related to sports: 10 days and a negative PCR test, taken on or after day 8. No COVID-19 associated symptoms. (applicable to athletes, coaches, officials and other participants after a known exposure)

Following the Food and Drug Administration's authorization of the Pfizer vaccine for those age 12-15, Fernandes said the school district is currently working with the Stamford Department of Public Health and Community Health Centers to develop an inoculation plan.
