Stamford Public Schools: Stamford Public Schools Announces Essay Content To Engage Students In Mayoral Election

Stamford, Conn -- Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that students city-wide are being encouraged to watch the upcoming mayoral debate and write essays as part of the Prometheum Foundation essay content.  In a month’s time, citizens of Stamford will be casting their vote for mayor.  They will either elect Stamford’s first woman mayor or an internationally known former baseball manager and local business owner.  Many Stamford Public Schools students and their teachers will be following this election with great interest, especially the mayoral debate being livestreamed from the Ferguson Library at 7pm on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021.

Teachers are asking their students to tune in to the debate that evening to hear the candidates and the issues.  Students will then have the opportunity to write essays and enter the Prometheum Foundation essay contest.  The winning elementary, middle and high school students will receive prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of $100, $50 and $25. 

The Prometheum Foundation will be hosting the only mayoral debate that will be broadcast live to the public.  Links to watch the live debate at 7 PM on Tuesday, October 19th can be accessed via http://DebateCT.com.  The Prometheum Foundation also sponsors the Franklin Forum, a non-partisan political and philosophical discussion for high schools students in Stamford.

Social Studies teacher and debate coach Claude Morest from the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering will be one of the panelists for the mayoral debate.  He has previously served as a panelist for the 2017 and 2013 mayoral debates.xxx
