“I give credit to the professional managers and supervisors across our City for creating a work atmosphere that respects and recognizes the contributions of our employees and results in better performance,” said Mayor David Martin. “Throughout my administration we have focused on keeping our best talent and supporting departments with leadership positions to guide operations. This award is part of the payoff of that dedication.”

The City of Stamford is one of 15 Connecticut companies and organizations recognized in the ranking and the only municipal government recognized in the state of Connecticut. The methodology of this ranking was compiled through direct recommendations from employees and indirect recommendations from participants asked to evaluate other employers in their region that stand out either positively or negatively. Employees were also asked 35 questions about work related topics to further assess a company/organization’s ranking. Results were submitted anonymously in multiple waves from October 2019 to May 2020.

“Stamford is fortunate to have professional managers who have created and effectively implemented productive work environments for our employees,” said Director of Human Resources Al Cava. “This award is a reflection of our staff’s professionalism and ability.”

Forbes and Statista selected America’s Best-in-State Employers based on an independent survey of approximately 80,000 U.S. employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in their U.S. Operations. The surveys were administered using a series of online panels and provide a representative sample of the U.S. workforce. Direct and indirect employee recommendations were evaluated on a state level.

The study assessed each company according to Atmosphere & Development, Company Image, Working Conditions, Salaries & Wages, and Diversity. The awards list was announced on August 24 and can be viewed on the Forbes website.
