Stamford Republicans Endorse Joe Corsello For Mayor

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford Republicans have endorsed Joe Corsello, a U.S. Army veteran, former Stamford police officer, and drummer, for mayor.

Corsello joins a race that includes State Rep. Caroline Simmons, who was endorsed by the Democrats last month over incumbent Mayor David Martin. Martin will seek signatures in order to force a primary in September. Bobby Valentine, the former Major League Baseball manager, is also running as an independent candidate.

"We love Joe: his character, his values, his commitment to hard work and his personality. We believe he'll be able to draw attention to the real problems and opportunities in our beloved city. It's time for a reckoning and Joe is here to help clean things up," said Stamford Republican Town Committee Chair Fritz Blau in an email last week.

According to the Stamford Advocate, Corsello graduated from Rippowam High School in 1964 and went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. After playing for the U.S. Army Field Band and later touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Corsello enrolled at the University of Connecticut in the 1970s, the Advocate reported. Corsello then joined the Stamford Police Department in 1980, where he served for over two decades.

The Advocate also said that Corsello hopes to tackle crime as mayor, and make education a top priority if elected.
