The Friends Book Shop at the Ferguson Library will hold its annual Collectible Sale Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library in Stamford.
The sale will feature a curated selection of collectible and vintage books at great prices, including first &amp; special editions, signed &amp; inscribed copies, leather-bound sets &amp; finely illustrated works and children’s books. The sale will also include art books, modern collectibles, ephemera, comics, vinyls and other treasures.
Prices will start as low as three dollars!
Cash, checks, credit/debit cards and Apple Pay are all accepted.
All proceeds benefit the Ferguson Library’s programs and services.

<a href="https://www.heathergaudiofineart.com" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.heathergaudiofineart.com</a>Heather Gaudio Fine Art is pleased to present Patrick Alston: Apertures, his first solo exhibition at the gallery.The new paintings featured in the show continue the artist’s signature vocabulary that focuses on a visual exploration of color and gesture.The show will open with a public reception on May 2nd, 4 -6pm, and runs through June 13th.
“Patrick Alston’s paintings ask something genuine of the viewer — they require engagement, attention, stillness and a willingness to sit with uncertainty. That kind of work is rare, and we are honored to be able provide that viewing experience to audiences here in the gallery,” states Heather Gaudio.
Apertures builds from an understanding of perception as something both deeply personal and collectively shared, shaped through gesture, color, and accumulated layers that hold traces of time, decision, and revision. These are echoed by the philosopher Alan Watts’ statement: “you are an aperture through which the universe looks out.”
Alston’s process begins in a state that is largely uncontrolled, with initial washes that move across the surface without a fixed image in mind.The artist establishes a palette and a loose sense of composition through instinct rather than intention. These early moments carry a degree of chance, where the painting is not yet defined but full of potential. From there, the work is gradually refined. Marks are added, obscured, reworked, and adjusted over time, as the painting moves between uncertainty and clarity.This process mirrors something fundamental about lived experience. “We enter the world without authorship over our initial conditions, shaped by circumstance, environment, and forces outside of our control. Over time, through action, reflection, and resistance, those conditions are negotiated and reformed,” states Alston. The paintings hold that tension between what is given and what is made, where randomness and intention remain in constant dialogue.
Each canvas holds a finite experience. There are limits in its dimensions, in the number of gestures it can contain, in the layers it can sustain before reaching a point of resolution. The painting arrives at a kind of conclusion, a boundary that cannot be exceeded. In this way, each work echoes the conditions of an individual life, shaped within constraints, unfolding over time, and ultimately held within a fixed span.
To enhance the viewing experience in the exhibition, the artist created a set of colorful stools intended for viewers to comfortably sit and spend time contemplating the paintings. Mounted on wheels for easy navigation around the gallery space, the seats can be moved and situated in front of each work, giving the audience the opportunity to spend as much time in front of a painting as they wish.Viewers are invited to recognize both the specificity of their own perspective and the possibility of shared experience that exists beyond it. “What we see, feel, and understand is never static, but shaped by time, memory, and context. There is a quiet sense of onism that emerges, the awareness that we are each confined to our own singular point of view.”With this slow approach to viewing the artist hopes that each work becomes a separate aperture, a distinct experience, a different set of conditions and emotional registers. Moving between them allows for a shifting perspective, an opportunity to step outside of oneself, if only momentarily.In this way, the paintings operate as both individual expressions and as part of a larger field, where meaning is not prescribed but emerges through attention, reflection and the act of looking. 
Alston has been the subject of many solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in the United States and abroad and his works are in many notable public, private and corporate collections.

Hosted by the Greenwich Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) in partnership with the Office of Special Education and Student Supports (SESS), this timely session features Jen Libby, MSW, LCSW, Founder &amp; CEO of Promly.
As children and teens face increasing levels of anxiety, academic pressure, and social stress, this practical discussion will equip parents and caregivers with strategies they can use immediately to support their child’s emotional well-being. Attendees will learn how to recognize early signs of stress and anxiety, strengthen communication, and help children build resilience, confidence, and a sense of purpose.

PROJECT MUSIC announces the first event in its “Overture to Italy” Concert Series, featuring internationally acclaimed cellist and composer Sujari Britt. The performance marks the beginning of a year‐long effort to expand global learning opportunities for PROJECT MUSIC student musicians in partnership with Sujari Britt and Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo in Trani, Italy, of which she is co-founder. Sujari will be joined by local artist and concert pianist, Maxim Pakhomov.
The concert will be held Sunday, May 31, at 4pm at the Greenwich Historical Society Barn in Greenwich at 47 Strickland Road, Cos Cob. General Admission tickets are $75 and VIP tickets, which include an artist Meet-and-Greet at 3:30pm and reserved concert seating, are $100. All tickets include a selection of light bites and refreshments, and can be purchased at projectmusic.org/overturetoitaly.
A dedicated advocate for music education and global artistic exchange, Britt serves as Artistic Director of Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo and participates in From the Top’s Arts Leadership Program. She performs on a Neuner &amp; Hornsteiner cello (Mittenwald, Germany, c.1718), generously loaned by the Carlsen Cello Foundation.
Cellist and composer Sujari Britt is an internationally recognized artist whose performances have captivated audiences across Asia, Europe, the UK, and the United States. A New York native, she began cello at age four and went on to earn degrees from the Royal Academy of Music (London), the Sibelius Academy (Finland), and the Manhattan School of Music.
Britt has appeared as soloist with orchestras nationwide, performed at Carnegie Hall, and played for President Obama at the White House. Her collaborations include work with Alisa Weilerstein, Sting, and the Kronos Quartet, and she has been featured at major international events such as the Beijing Super Cello Festival, Musiikkitalo’s Cellofest Opening Gala in Helsinki, and United Nations programs for World Humanitarian Day and HeForShe.
PROJECT MUSIC has been invited to partner with Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo in Trani, Puglia Italy in 2027. Students enrolled in the immersive musical instruction program offered through PROJECT MUSIC will be invited to apply for the opportunity to travel to Italy in Summer 2027 as part of the H. K. Miserocchi Summer Music Institute, a division of PROJECT MUSIC, to study, learn and grow their musical talents under the tutelage of Sujari Britt and the Accademia Filarmonica del Mediterraneo.&nbsp;
