Stamford Route 1 Bridge Replacement Work To Continue This Weekend

STAMFORD, CT — Traffic will once again be detoured off Route 1 and off Interstate 95 at Exit 9 in Stamford this weekend. Stamford Police urge travelers to avoid the area if possible, as major delays are expected.
According to the project's website, the state Department of Transportation is replacing the Route 1 bridge over I-95 at Exit 9 using an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) process. The first weekend closure as a result of the project occurred last weekend.
The Exit 9 southbound on and off ramps and the northbound on ramp will close again Friday, June 7, at 6 p.m. Route 1 will also close between Courtland Avenue and Seaside Avenue at this time.

The Exit 9 northbound off ramp will close at 9 p.m. that night and I-95 motorists will be detoured onto two-lane temporary roadways located at the on and off ramps. All I-95 travel lanes and Exit 9 on and off ramps will open again on Monday, June 10, at 5 a.m. Route 1 will also be open to through traffic.
Construction was scheduled to last until early Monday morning last weekend, however the work was completed early and the highway re-opened at 6 a.m. on Sunday, while the Exit 9 on and off-ramps opened at 2 a.m. on Monday.
