The Danbury Whalers of the Federal League recently re-signed Stamford resident Alec Kirschner for the 2011-12 season.

Kirschner was a midseason free agent acquisition by the Whalers last season and in only 17 games, he posted 22 goals, 18 assists and led the Whalers with a plus-minus rating of +27.  In the playoffs, he paced the team with seven points in five games. 

Kirschner, who was named to the all-FHL first team, scored a team-high four goals against Cape Cod on Feb. 10. He scored goals in 13 of his 17 regular-season contests and registered points in all but two.

Kirschner had two five-point games and a pair of four-point games, in addition to six multi-goal contests and two hat tricks.

Kirschner was second in the league with three shorthanded goals and had the greatest moment in Danbury Whalers' history when he converted a game-tying penalty shot with 16.2 seconds left in the third period of game three of the playoff series against the New York Aviators.

Kirschner's previous hockey experience includes two seasons at the University of Connecticut, along with stints with the Muskegeon Lumberjacks of the IHL, Tulsa Oilers of the CHL and the Flint Generals of the IHL.

The North American Hockey School Summer camps will take place at Terry Conners Ice rink in Stamford during August. The Ryan Hull Goaltending Camp as well as Eric Lund's Elite Shooting/Scoring/Stick Handling Camp are set for Aug. 1-5: Goalies age 10 and under go from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. while goalies age 11 and older are on from noon to 6 p.m. It's the same age and time brakedowns for the elite shooters.

The Glenn Anderson Stanley Cup Week is Aug 8-12, Age 10 and under from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and age 11 and older noon to 6 p.m. The All Phases Camp (power skating, shooting, defensemen) will Ryan Hughes and Lund is Aug 15-19 for ages eight through bantams and midgets. Aug 22-26 features power skating, shooting, defense and goalie camps.
