Seven-footer Paschal Chukwu just missed a triple-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocks as theboys basketball defeated Norwalk 80-69 on Friday night.

St. Patrick's (N.J.) transfer Jason Boswell poured in 27 points for the Crusaders (2-0) and Schadrac Casimir added 22.

Rasheen Thompson, freshman Roy Kane and Saeed Soulemane each had 14 points for the Bears (1-1).

Norwalk stayed in the game by making 11 3-pointers but go no closer than 64-57 following a 12-2 run with three minutes remaining.

John Watts scored 11 of his 16 points in the extra periods as the Trumbull boys basketball team outlasted Westhill 73-70 on Friday in a double overtime thriller.

Westhill (0-1) was without star center Chris Walters, who is recovering from a knee injury and won't return until January. In addition, Antwaun Boyd had his medical request for a fifth season turned down by the CIAC.

Mike Yerina recorded 13 rebounds and 13 points for Trumbull (1-1), which held a 48-43 lead in the fourth quarter. Travis Fonseca added 12 points for the Eagles before fouling out late in the fourth period.

Trey Brey scored 15 points for Trumbull, which built a 70-61 lead in the second overtime before Westhill's late rally fell short.

Tony Dobbinson scored 25 points and Sam Dorissaint added 21 for the Vikings.

Kelsey Cognetta scored 15 points as the Stamford girls basketball team used a big fourth quarter to defeat Staples 43-34 Friday in a battle of unbeatens.

The Black Knights outscored the Wreckers 18-6 over the final eight minutes after Staples entered the final period with a 28-25 lead.

Kelsey Santagata added 10 points for Stamford, which is off to a 4-0 start.

Jess Coelho and Erica Stein each had 12 points for Staples, which dropped to 3-1. Coelho also grabbed eight rebounds.

The Trumbull girls basketball team needed a fourth-quarter comeback to extend its FCIAC winning streak to 27 games.

Erin Moore scored 14 points and Alexa Pfohl added 13 points as the Eagles edged Westhill 60-58 overtime on Friday to improve to 4-0.

Victoria Pfohl added 11 points, 10 assists and six rebounds for Trumbull, which entered the fourth quarter facing a 45-37 deficit.

Only five players scored for the Eagles as Amanda Pfohl had 12 and Joyce Woolen chipped in with eight.

Megan D'Alessandro had her third straight monster game with 33 points for the Vikings (0-3). She is averging 31 points per game over Westhill's first three contests.

Mackenzie Griffin scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team rallied for a 47-45 victory over Norwalk on Friday.

Ali Palma added 11 points for the Crusaders, who improved to 3-1. Norwalk dropped to 0-3.

Katie Schmidt scored 11 points and Emma Oyomba added 10 for the Bears, who took a 39-29 lead into the final period.
