With the season barely under way, the girls basketball team hosts defending FCIAC champion Trumbull on Friday in an early FCIAC showdown (5:30 p.m.).

Trinity Catholic was never tested as it used a 29-0 run to build a 48-9 halftime lead and hold the Hiltoppers to under 20 percent shooting from the field.
Trumbull opened defense of its FCIAC title with a 59-27 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe on Wednesday.

Known for its trademark defense, the Eagles outscored Ludlowe 49-19 over the final three periods after the Falcons kept it close in the first quarter.
Trumbull, which went undefeated in the season last season and finished 23-2 overall, suffered some major graduation losses but still will be tough to dethrone.
Stamford and Westhill also are back in action on Friday.
The Black Knights, who cruised to a 56-17 win over Bassick on Wednesday, host another Bridgeport school on Harding (5:30).
The Vikings, who opened with a 59-49 loss at improving Wilton on Wednesday, look to even their record at Ridgefield ( 7 p.m.), last season's FCIAC finalist.
