Mackenzie Griffin, who recently scored her 1,000th career point, and the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team cooled off Fairfield Warde on Friday.
Griffin scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Crusaders snapped Warde's six-game winning streak with a 61-49 victory in Stamford.

Trinity Catholuc improved to 11-6 overall and 10-5 in the FCIAC while the Mustangs dropped to 10-6 and 8-6.
Tiara Fountain scored 15 points and Jamera Fountain added nine for Warde.

Trinity Catholic built a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and maintained a 28-22 edge at the half. The Crusaders then outscored the Mustangs 32-27 in the second half.
With two weeks left in the regular season, Trinity Catholic holds the fifth spot while Warde is in a three-way tie for ninth with Darien and Westhill. The Mustangs are one game behind Morwalk, Stamford and Staples, who are tied for sixth.

The Fairfield Warde boys basketball team clinched a state tournament berth in stunning fashion Friday night.
Sal Siciliano scored 12 points and Michael Wright added 11 as the Warriors upset FCIAC power Trinity Catholic 59-54 in Fairfield on Friday.
Warde, which won its third straight game following a 44-43 loss to rival Fairfield Ludlowe, improved to 8-6 overall and 6-6 in the FCIAC.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for Trinity Catholic, which fell to 11-4 and 10-3.
The Crusaders built a 34-30 halftime lead but were outscored 16-9 in the third period as the Mustangs took a 46-43 lead into the final period.
Trinity Catholic remained a 52-48 lead, but the Crusaders were blanked over the final three minutes of the game. Matt McTague added 10 points for Warde.
Scadrac Casimir led four players in double figures for Trinity Catholic with 17 points. Jason Boswell and Kevin Lemeune each added 12 for the Crusaders and Pacal Chidiebere-Chukwu chipped in with 10.
Warde held Trinity Catholic to just 20 points in the second half, outscoring the Crusaders by a 29-20 margin.

Chris Walters and Tony Dobbinson combined for 42 points Friday as the Westhill boys basketball team remained hot with a 67-58 victory over Staples.
It was the sixth straight win for the Vikings, who improved to 10-4 and 9-3.
Westhill prevailed despite a huge game from Staples' Peter Rankowitz, who poured in 30 points and grabbed seeven rebounds,
Michael Argosh added 14 points for the Wreckers, who dropped back to the .500 mark at 7-7 and 6-6.
The contest was close early with the teams battling to an 11-11 tie after the first quarter and the Wreckers grabbing a 27-24 lead at halftime,
However, Westhill grabbed control in the third quarter, outscoring the Wreckers 26-16 to take a 50-43 lead into the final period.
Westhill holds the fifth spot in the FCIAC standings while Staples is tied for 10th, one game out of a playoff spot.

The FCIAC playoff hopes of the New Canaan girls basketball team likely ended following Friday's 43-23 loss to Stamford.
The Rams suffered their fourth consecutive loss and dropped to 8-8 overall and 6-8 in the FCIAC as they were shut down by the Black Knights' suffocating defense.
Stamford nearly shut out the Rams in the first half, allowing no points in the first quarter and just two in the second period to build a 25-2 lead at the intermission.
With just four contests remaining in the regular season, New Canaan had fallen three games out of a playoff spot.
Stamford mproved to 9-5 and 9-7 and climbed into a thre-way tie for sixth with Norwalk and Staples.
Kelsey Cognetta scored 11 points and Lauren Schapiro added 10 for the Black Knights, who held Sarah Mannelly, New Canana's leading scorer, to only four points. Kelly Armstrong paced the Rams with nine points.

The Stamford boys basketball team routed New Canaan 82-40 on Friday.
Stamford, which improved to 7-7 overall and 6-6 in the FCIAC, is one game out of an FCIAC playoff.
New Canaan, which is still winless in the FCIAC, dropped to 1-13 and 0-12.
Shawn Padilla had 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Black Knights, who suffered no letdown after upsetting Ridgefield 50-39 in their previous game.
Barry Boderick led Stamford 22 points - 15 coming on 3-pointers -- and Bryan Boderick added 11 points for the Black Knights.
Nick Depuy scored 10 points to lead the Rams while Willie Burger and Connor Kilbane each had nine.
Stamford built a 24-8 lead after the first quarter and extended its margin to 42-23 at the half. The second half was more of the same as the Black Knights ourscored New Canaan 39-17 to complete their 42-point victory.

Nikki Bukovsky scored 17 points Friday as the Staples High School girls basketball team won a battle of FCIAC playoff contenders with a 42-40 victory over Westhill in Westport.
Jess Coelho added nine points for Staples, which improved to 10-6 overall and 9-5 in the FCIAC. The Wreckers were coming off a 53-48 win over Wilton in which they outscored the Warriors 12-0 over the final three minutes to snap a three-game losing streak.
Staples built a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, then allowed only one point in the second period in extending its margin to 21-15 at the half.
The Wreckers took a 35-30 lead into the final quarter, then held on for the victory.
Megan D'Alessandro scored 16 points and Steph Roones added 15 for the Vikings, who dropped to 9-7 and 8-6.
With two weeks left in the regular season, Staples is in a three-way tie for sixth in the FCIAC standings with Norwalk and Stamford.
Westhill has dropped into a three-way tie for ninth with Fairfield and Darien, who both were losers on Friday.

The Westhill boys hockey team blanked Norwalk-McMahon 8-0 on Saturday for its fourth straight victory.
The Vikings improved to 4-8-1 after starting the season 0-8-1.
In other action, Darien blanked Stamford 6-0 for its ninth straight win. Darien improved to 10-3 and Stamford dropped to 2-11-1.
Trinity Catholic drubbed injury-depleted Staples-Weston-Shelton 10-1 for its second straight win. The Crusaders improved to 4-10 while S-W-S suffered its sixth straight loss and dropped to 6-7.
