The boys basketball team has been forced to forfeit last Friday's 72-62 victory over Bassick, the Stamford Advocate reported Thursday.

Athletic director Mike King told the newspaper that the forfeiture resulted from a violation of the “fifth year rule,” in which players can only play for eight semesters before exhausting their eligibility.

The forfeit drops Westhill's record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the FCIAC while Bassick improves to 7-1 and 5-1.

The Vikings, who edged Fairfield Ludlowe 63-62 on Tuesday, are back in action on Friday at home against Bridgeport Central (4-2), which is coming off a 78-74 double overtime loss to Staples.

In other action Friday, Trinity Catholic faces its second straight unbeaten opponent.

After falling to top-ranked St. Joseph 65-61 on Tuesday, the Crusaders (5-3) head to the Hat City on Friday to take on 7-0 Danbury (7 p.m.).
