The boys basketball team avoided a second straight loss Friday - barely.

Kevin Leumene scored a team-high 16 points as the Crusaders survived another upset bid with a 61-54 overtime victory against city rival Stamford.

Kenny Wright hit a jumper in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. Trinity Catholic, which improved to 5-2, was coming off a 43-41 loss to Greewich on Tuesday.

Schadrac Casimir added 14 for the Crusaders, who host undefeated St. Joseph in a showdown on Tuesday. Jason Boswell contributed 12 points for the Crusaders.

Bryan Boderick scored 14 points and brother Barry added 13 for the Black Knights, who dropped to 2-5. Shawn Padilla chipped in with 12 for Stamford.

Chris Walters scored 20 points in his first game of the season Friday as Westhill posted a 72-62 victory over Bassick.

Walters missed the Vikings' first five games with a torn meniscus in his right knee. He scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, when the Vikings rallied from a 37-29 halftime deficit.

Sam Dorrisaint scored 14 points and Tony Dobbinson added 13 for Westhill, which improved to 4-2.

The Vikings outscored the Lions 20-10 in the third period to take a 49-37 lead into the final period.

Bassick suffered its second straight loss and dropped to 5-2.

Mackenzie Griffin poured in 24 points Friday, leading the Trinity Catholic girls basketball team to a 47-28 victory over Stamford. Griffin was 12-of-12 from the line and also contributed defensively with five steals.

Ali Palma added eight points for the Crusaders, who improved to 6-3 following their third straight win.

Lauren Shapiro had 10 points to pace Stamford, which dropped to 6-3. The Black Knights were held to only 11 points in the second half.

Cole Savona recorded a hat trick, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Stamford boys hockey team defeated Westhill 3-2 on Saturday.

The Black Knights erased 2-1 deficit entering the third period to improve tp 2-4-1.

Neil Smolinski scored both goals for the Vikings, who remained winless at 0-4-1.

Hunter Alderman had 23 saves for Stamford and Adam Goldstone stopped 27 shots for Westhill.
