The Stamford senior American Legion team rallied from an early deficit Tuesday to defeat Enfield, 13-5, in a play-in game for the state tournament.

Sam Kosterich went the distance for Stamford (16-12), which plays RCP at Wednesay 4 p.m. at Cromwell High in the second round.

If Stamford wins again it will advance to state tournament, which begins Saturday at Bristol's Muzzy Field and Middletown's Palmer Field.

Stamford spotted Enfield an early 4-0 lead before scoring four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, three in the seventh and five in the top of the ninth to take control.

The Stamford Babe Ruth teams stayed alive Tuesday in the 14- and 15-year-old state tournaments. The 14s defeated North Haven, 4-3 and the 15s downed Ansonia, 9-2.

The 14s take on Norwalk on Wednesday in the loser's bracket semifinals at 5:30 p.m. at Mercer Field in Waterford.

The 15s will play in the loser's bracket final against Tri County-New London on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Volunteer Field in New New Milford.

North Stamford begins play in the section one 12-year-old Little League tournament on Wednesday against Berlin at 5:30 p.m. in Orange.

Games will follow on Thursday (Shelton National), Saturday (Fairfield American) and Monday (Berlin).  The top two teams play for the sectional title on Wednesday and a berth in the state championship.
