CIAC Class LL, first round: Westhill 89, Newington 69 -- Chris Walter scores 26 points as Vikings show no signs of rust after being off for a week. Antwaun Boyd adds 19 points for No. 11 seed Westhill, which plays at No. 6 Hillhouse in the second round on Wednesday. The Academics eliminated Harding 56-54 in overtime.
CIAC Class LL first round: Stamford 50, Norwich Free Academy 44 -- The FCIAC runner-ups relied on their suffocated defense to advance. Luis Briddter scored 15 points, Danny Turkvan 14 and Barry Boderick 13 for 18th-seeded Black Knights, who played at No. 2 St. Joseph on Wednesday.

CIAC Class M, first round: Trinity Catholic 69, Brookfield 47 - Crusaders post an easy win in their first state tournament opener on the road since 2002. Kevin Lemeune scores all 17 of his points in the first half, when the Crusaders build a 42-21 cushion. Trinity Catholic plays either No. 2 Nonnewaug or No. 31 Barlow in the second round on Friday.
