A spirited fourth-quarter rally fell short for the Stamford football team last week against Ridgefield. Trailing 34-14 in the fourth quarter, the Black Knights made things interesting before falling 34-28 to the Tigers.

Stamford (1-2) hopes to build on that fourth-quarter comeback Thursday when it hosts winless St. Joseph (0-3) at Robustelli Field in a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Bryan Boderick threw three touchdown passes for the Black Knights in the second half, including two to his brother Barry, and also rushed for a score. Jake Demetros had five catches for 127 yards for the Black Knights.

After losing virtually all of its offensive weapons from last year's team that won a second straight Class S state championship, including record-setting quarterback Joe Della Vecchia, St. Joseph is clearly in a rebuilding mode.

The Cadets also have had trouble stopping their opponents. Last week, they were hammered by Darien 31-7, which followed a 41-14 setback to Wilton the week before.

Also Thursday, Westhill visits Bridgeport Central in a battle of 0-3 teams. Westhill is coming off lopsided losses Trumbull (47-13) and Norwalk (42-13) after playing Stamford (28-22) close in its season opener.

Bridgeport Central has been no better, getting drubbed by Staples (48-8) and Danbury (44-8) in its last two contests.
