Stamford Sets Up Cooling Centers For Weekend's Heatwave

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the region.

STAMFORD, CT — In anticipation of this weekend's heatwave, the City of Stamford has established cooling centers to help residents avoid the excessively hot conditions, officials announced.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the region for Saturday and Sunday, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees.

"An Excessive Heat Watch means that the combination of heat and humidity could create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible," Stamford officials wrote on the city's website. "Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening."
