Stamford Softball Earns No. 6 Seed In FCIAC Playoffs

Black Knights rolls to 14-1 romp over city rival Trinity Catholic while Westhill looks up the top seed

The Stamford softball team secured the  No. 6 seed n the FCIAC playoffs with a 14-1 rout of city rival Trinity Catholic on Saturday morning while undefeated Westhill locked up the top seed with a 12-0 drubbing of winless Bassick.

The Black Knights (11-7 FCIAC) , who actually had clinched a playoff spot heading into Saturday, will play at No. 3 St. Joseph (15-3) in the quarterfinals on Monday. Stamford won a tiebreaker with Fairfield Warde (11-7) for the No. 6 seed.

Westhill (17-0) looks to complete an undefeated regular season on Sunday when it visits Darien, but the battle of the top seeds has lost some of its luster after it was postponed four times this week. Darien lost a shot at the top seed after getting upset by Fairfield Warde 1-0 on Friday.

Westhill will host No. 8 Fairfield Ludlowe (10-8) on Monday while No. 2 Darien (15-2) entertains No. 7 Warde. Ludlowe won a three-way tiebreaker with Wilton (10-8) and Staples (10-8) to grab the final playoff spot.

In the final quarterfinal, No. 4 New Canaan (13-5) earned the right to host No. 5 Danbury (13-5) with an 8-7 victory over McMahon on Saturday.

None of the three Stamford schools qualified for the FCIAC baseball playoffs.
