With eight teams, including Stamford High School, battling for the final three playoff spots, the final week of the FCIAC boys basketball season figures to be a wild one with numerous tiebreaker scenarios involved.
The Black Knights (10-8, 9-7) stayed in the mix with a potentially critical 45-39 victory over Fairfield Warde on Wednesday. That result left Stamford in a three-way tie for sixth with Bridgeport Central and Greenwich.
Then there are five teams -- Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, Staples and Trumbull -- tied for ninth at 8-8.
Stamford would lose tiebreakers against Bridgeport Central and Greenwich. Regarding the 8-8 teams, the Black Knights also aren't in good shape, losing to Danbury, Staples and Fairfield Ludlowe. Among the group, the only team Stamford beat was Warde.
Given that scenario, it would appear that Stamford needs to win both of its remaining games (at Bassick on Monday and Harding on Wednesday) to get in, but beating Bassick on the road will not be easy.
Here is the final schedule for the other contenders:
Greenwich ---at Fairfield Warde, at Danbury
Bridgeport Central -- Trinity Catholic, at McMahon
Danbury -- Norwalk, Greenwich
Fairfield Ludlowe -- at Trumbull, at Darien
Fairfield Warde -- Greenwich, St. Joseph
Trumbull -- Fairfield Ludlowe, Trinity Catholic.
Staples -- at McMahon, at Bassick
Central (Trinity Catholic), Stamford (Bassick), Warde (St. Joseph), Staples (Bassick) and Trumbull (Trinity Catholic) each have tough games remaining while Monday's Warde-Greenwich and Ludlowe-Trumbull contests shape up as elimination games.
However, a win by the Falcons puts them clearly in the driver's seat as they finish at Darien.
St. Joseph, Ridgefield, Trinity Catholic, Bassick and Westhill have clinched playoff spots. Westhill hosts Wilton on Monday.

Following Saturday's 2-0 loss to Wilton, the Trinity Catholic boys hockey team (8-11, 7-4) is in a three-way for fifth in the FCIAC standings with New Canaan and Fairfield. The trio each has 14 points.
Under the FCIAC's new postseason format, the top six teams qualify for the tier one playoffs. Trinity Catholic has a tiebreaker edge Fairfield and New Canaan.
The Crusaders conclude the regular season on Wednesday against Westhill while New Canaan, which lost to St. Joseph 4-2 on Saturday, hosts Wilton in its conference finale on Monday..
Fairfield concludes conference play on Wednesday with a tough contest at Darien. Regardless of the outcome of that game, however, the Crusaders will make the playoffs if they take care of Westhill since they own a tiebreaker edge over the Rams and Mustangs.
