The boys basketball team rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Ridgefield 52-44 in the FCIAC semifinals Tuesday at Fairfield Warde.

The Crusaders (17-5) overcame a cold-shooting first half in which they scored just nine points to reach their ninth FCIAC championship game since 2001.

Allowing just 23 points in the second half and overtime, Trinity Catholic turned around the game by outscoring Ridgefield 21-8 in the third quarter to take a 30-29 lead into the final period.

The contest was tied 42-42 after regulation before the Crusaders outscored Ridgefield 10-2 in the overtime period. Neither team scored in the final three minutes of the fourth period.

Schadrac Casimir scored 15 points and Paschal Chukwu added 12 for Trinity Catholic, which will take on defending FCIAC champion Bassick in Thursday's title game at Fairfield Warde at 7:30 p.m. Trinity Catholic will be seeking its seventh league title and first since 2008.

Seth Von Kuhn scored 12 points for Ridgefield (16-6), which was hoping to reach the FCIAC championship game for the first time in school history.

Jack Heller, Patrick Racy and Kurt Steidl each added eight points for the Tigers while Kevin Leumene chipped in with 11 for Trinity Catholic.

In the first game of Tuesday's semifinal doubleheader, Demetrius Thomas poured in 32 points to lead Bassick (17-5) to a 75-62 victory over No. 8 seed Bridgeport Central (12-9).

The Hilltoppers stunned top seed St. Joseph 62-58 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
