The boys basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament Wednesday with a 71-51 victory over FCIAC rival Wilton.

The seventh-seeded Crusaders improved to 19-6 and will face No. 2 seed Career Magnet in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Career Magnet, which defeated previously unbeaten Hillhouse in the SCC finals, advanced with a 53-48 victory over Wilbur Cross. The Panthers improved to 23-2.

Wilton, which was making its first state tournament appearance since 2000, finished the season at 11-11.

Also on Wednesday, the Trinity Catholic boys hockey team suffered an 11-0 loss to No. 3 seed Ridgefield in the first round of the Division I state tournament.

The Crusaders, who started 2-10, finished the season at 10-13 after qualifying for the FCIAC tier one playoffs.
