Stamford's Recreation Superintendent Wins State Award

Laurie Albano is being recognized for her work to improve the city's recreation offerings, facilities.

Stamford’s Superintendent of Recreation, Laurie Albano, has been named the recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association, Inc. (CRPA).

Albano will be presented the prestigious award next month at a formal awards ceremony.

Stamford Mayor David Martin said, “She has done tremendous work for the City of Stamford and has enhanced the lives of the young people who attend all of the recreation department’s activities. It is great to see that she is getting the recognition she deserves, most importantly, from her peers.”

The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious award that the CRPA offers. Recipients have to have made outstanding contributions, over a significant number of years, to the recreation and/or parks field.

“Laurie is an incredible asset to the city and I am so proud of the work she does day-in and day-out. This is a huge honor for Laurie and we are lucky that she happens to work with us here in Stamford,” said Ernie Orgera, Stamford’s Director of Operations.

The CRPA said that this honor “…is truly a testament to (her) hard work and dedication within the field of Parks and Recreation.”
