There are openings in the Young Mariners Academy for middle school students and the SoundWaters Research Intensive for high school students.
STAMFORD, CT — SoundWaters is offering up some exciting after-school science programs in the fall, and registration is filling up quick.

Participants learn to sail larger and increasingly complex boats as they progress through the program. Indoor science enrichment will be offered in inclement weather and for the program’s November sessions.
The program will meet Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center in Stamford’s John J. Boccuzzi Park, from Sept. 14 to Nov. 16.

The SoundWaters Research Intensive (SRI) offers high school students the facilities and opportunity for an advanced science research experience.
Participants will have access to sophisticated equipment aboard SoundWaters’ research vessel as well as dedicated space in the Cohen SoundWaters Harbor Center laboratory. Each investigator will design and conduct original marine science research, culminating in a final presentation.
All students will gain insights into human impact on the environment and factors contributing to climate change.
SRI will run from Sept. 18 to Dec. 14. Two groups of 12 students will meet twice a week (once on the research vessel, once in the lab), with one group meeting Mondays and Wednesdays (3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and the other on Tuesdays and Thursdays (3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
