STEM-Based Week-Long Summer Camps

Stamford Recreation partners with CT Computer Education to offer week-long STEM summer camps for children ages 3-12. Camps are located at the Recreation Star Center (1170 Shippan Ave.) To register, please visit our website or stop by our office on the first floor of Government Center, located at 888 Washington Blvd, Stamford, CT.

Lego/Fidget Spinner, Vehicles & Robots

This class has a different theme each day. Does your child love fidget spinners? Does your child love Lego’s? This class combines the best of both worlds. This class will show children how to build fidget spinners. The class then switches the children to building cars and other movable vehicles. Children will have an opportunity to program their robot using the Mindstorms Lego™ Robotics System. Pictures will be emailed home. Please bring a lunch and a snack. No Lego’s will be taken home.

JR. Robotics
Join in on the fun with Lego’s while learning to program different robotic creations. Children will work in groups and build individually movable animals and androids. Learn how to program your creation to sit and move in different directions. Pictures will be emailed home. Please bring a lunch and a snack. No Lego’s will be taken home

Let’s Light Up The Circuits with Lego’s
Love Science and Building? This class will intrigue your child about the world of science while investigating how to create circuits and other fun electricity experiments. Children will learn how to create electricity with the use of a battery. The class then switches to talk about solar power and how it works. Some solar building will includes a fan, robots, racecars, feris
wheels and a solar power windmill. Pictures will be emailed home. No Lego’s will be taken home. Please provide a lunch and a snack.

Infinity Building through Space With Lego’s
So who wants to be an astronaut? Come build your own space station with your friends. Challenge your friends to creativity while building your own planet of space aliens from Lego’s. This class involves discussions of rockets, constellations and galaxies. Pictures will be emailed home. No Lego’s will be taken home. Please provide a snack.

Gross & Really Cool Jr. Experiments
This class will use Robotics to bring science, engineering, technology to life! Children will have two goals one to build and the other to program. Each student will build their own robot and learn how to program it to adapt to light and touch sensors. No Lego’s will be taken home. Children will build individually and as a group. Please bring a lunch and a snack.

Science By Golly Gee
Science and more science…. Lets talk about creating different soluble forms. Some experiments in class will be making play dough, bubbles, shrinky dinks, bubble bombs and yeast balloons, and perler beads. This class we separate children into groups and have experiments done by the children. Children can bring a smock. Please notify class of any allergies. Please bring a snack.

Secret 101 Camp
Spy camp... Come all and attend a twist to science. Move over Sherlock Holmes! It is time to solve our mysteries using forensic, logic and technology. This class involves cracking codes, uncovering clues and revealing secret messages. Come solve the case of the missing cookies.

Basic Building
Young children love to build- and building is a great way to enter the world of engineering! Our hand- on exploration of simple machines introduces the basic concept of physical science and engineering. Children will use the Duplo ® Building System to create animals and machines. Children will build with a buddy. No Lego’s will be taken home. Please bring a snack

WeDo Robotics
Yes, We CAN learn about Robotics! With the LEGO™ WeDo Robotics System, young children can build and program their own robotic creations. Designed by the experts at MIT, this unique system teaches children about simple machines, engineering, programming and so much more. Young imaginations soar! Children will work in groups. No Lego’s will be taken home. Please bring a snack.
