Take Charge of Your Health at The Ferguson Library

Medical Mondays, co-sponsored by Stamford Health, begins in April.

Beginning in April, take charge of your health at The Ferguson Library when the Library launches Medical Mondays, a new series of monthly health information sessions. Co-sponsored by Stamford Health and featuring physicians from Stamford Health, the programs will cover topics such as cardiac health, cancer prevention, and baby safety. All sessions will take place at the Ernest A. DiMattia, Jr. Building of The Ferguson Library. The programs are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

On Monday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m., Mina Owlia, MD, Director of the Cardio-Oncology program for Stamford Health will present Cardiac Health: How to Detect and Prevent Heart Attacks in Men and Women. Dr. Owlia is a doubly board certified physician in Cardiovascular Disease and Internal Medicine. She specializes in noninvasive cardiology where her expertise includes the management of complex coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular disease and preventive cardiology. Dr. Owlia enjoys helping her patients learn how to minimize their heart disease risk and improve their quality of life. One of her top initiatives is to raise awareness of women’s cardiology issues in the community.

On Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m., Gloria Huang, MD and Barrie Suskin, MD will discuss Cancer Prevention and the Role of Genetics. Gloria Huang, MD, provides gynecologic oncology care to patients at Stamford Hospital. She’s an internationally renowned expert in treating and preventing reproductive tract cancers, including ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer. She has published 35 peer-reviewed research articles, chapters and reviews, and has presented her findings nationally and internationally.

Barrie Suskin, MD received her MD from Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Science at the University of Buffalo and did her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her medical specialties are obstetrics and gynecology.

On Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m., John F. Ciannella, MD, Director of the Division of Neonatology, speaks on the topic of Baby Safety and Safe Sleep Practices During Your Baby’s First Year of Life. Dr. Ciannella is a fellowship-trained and board-certified neonatologist who since 2008 cares for newborn infants and those who are premature or diagnosed with complex medical and rare conditions and those who are critically ill. He is committed to excellence in patient and family-centered care and is compassionate about each patient he serves – providing comfort and support at an extremely stressful time.
